From Grass Valley Police Sgt. Joe Matteoni: On June 10, 2012 at 11:01 hours a Grass Valley police officer on patrol in the area of the Nevada Club Bar, 108 West Main Street, heard what sounded like a single gunshot. The officer observed a group of subjects in front of the Nevada Club in a verbal argument. One of the subjects yelled at the police officer that he had just been shot at. All the subjects appeared agitated and were acting as though they were going to begin a physical fight with each other . The officer called for additional officers/emergency back-up, pulled up to the scene and ordered all of the subjects on the ground at gunpoint. The five subjects involved complied with the officers commands.
Other officers arrived at the location and secured the scene. A loaded 9mm handgun was discovered in the waistband of Hardy Saffold, the owner of the Nevada Club Bar. Saffold also had a weighted leather pouch known as a blackjack, or SAP on his person.
