Nevada City residents Fred and Marguerite Buhler have been honored as Veterans of the Year by State Senator Doug LaMalfa in the Fourth District that the lawmaker represents….. including Nevada County.
Fred Buhler founded the Friends of the Nevada County Military to support soldiers and their families. The Friends put together packages for servicemen and women with items that include videos from Touchdown Productions of Nevada County sports. Buhler said Gil Dominguez with Touchdown volunteered the videos and they’re a big hit.
The Buhlers, honored as Veterans of the Year for their efforts including the packages provided soldiers, met in 1965 on the back of a tank at a California military base. They married three months later. Both were lieutenants in the United States Army.
Fred Buhler traveled to Iraq in the last decade to assist in establishing a banking system for the country.
