Call it the case of the $10,000 Slurpee lid; state Senator Doug LaMalfa does. He represents the 4th district including Nevada, Placer, Yuba and Sutter counties.
LaMalfa says a road project in Northern California led to a state Regional Water Quality Boards listing a discarded Slurpee lid in a river as among the project’s problems and warranting a $10, 000 fine.
LaMalfa has won approval for an audit of the state Regional Water Quality Board. LaMalfa says taxpayers deserve to know that their money pays for construction projects and not to grow environmental bureaucracies,.
Water quality boards spokesman George Kostyrko says the state agency included the Slurpee lid on a list of issues involving the Northern California project, but no fine was assessed for the lid. Kostyrko says the state agency welcomes the audit.
