The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is celebrating its tenth anniversary this weekend. The museum will be holding an open house tomorrow (Saturday) with free refreshments, music, tours, and rail bus rides. The narrow gauge railroad consisted of 22 miles of track from Colfax to Nevada City, and ran from 1876 until 1942. Treasurer Al Dittmann says the government closed the mines during World War Two, and the railroad was abandoned…
But the museum does have Engine Number Five, and lots of cars from that era. The Open House is from 10am-4pm at the Museum, located off the Gold Flat exit on the Golden Center Freeway.
