One of the founding members of Welcome Home Vets says it’s not unusual for a veteran to wait several years after coming home to seek treatment for depression, anxiety, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Doug Becker says he waited over 30 years after coming home from Vietnam.

With counseling, Becker was able to turn his life around and start working a normal schedule. The Veterans Administration has a one year limit for treatment for combat veterans in their area of residence. After that they have to travel to a Veterans hospital to see a therapist, which disrupts the healing process. Becker says the purpose of Welcome Home Vets is to keep the veterans and their family at home. He says Welcome Home Vets has two licensed therapists  in Nevada County  and do not charge veterans for treatment.
