Even if you have been to the Empire Mine before there is bound to be something new at the one-hundred-and-eighteenth annual Miner’s Picnic this Saturday. The Empire Mine Association members are going all out to entertain the public. Jack Laird is the Miners Picnic Chair.

One new feature is a re-enactment of a disaster at the mine. Blacksmith, Bill Blount says it’s going to be quite a show.

People can bring their own food and beverages or purchase them from local vendors. Cousin Jack pasties, smiley Guys Barbecue, Kernel Korn, and Lazy Dog Ice Cream will be there. The park is open from 10am to 5pm. activities are from 11to 4. Besides food the only cost is admission to get into Empire Mine State Historic Park. ($7 adults 17 and over, $3 ages 6-16, under 6 free.) The first miner’s picnic was in 1895 to raise money for miner’s widow’s and orphans, and for miners injured or out of work.
