Fish spawning grounds and breeding habitat for three species of endangered migratory fish are effected by the existence and operation of Daguirre Point Dam and Englebright Dam on the Yuba River. These dams are operated by the Army Corp of Engineers and local environmentalist groups including South Yuba River Citizens League and Friends of the River say that the Army Corp is in violation of court orders outlining corrective actions the Corps is to take to improve fish habitats below the dams and possible improvement to fish passage around the dams.
However, Army Corp Public Affairs Specialist, Chris Gray, says recent biologic assessments describing the action and effect of operating the dams point out that the project is under congressional order and is exempt from certain environmental restrictions.

Gray also says the Corp is taking corrective action that is making positive impacts on fish populations.

According to Gray, in upcoming months, the Corp is also introducing more improvements to the habitat below Englebright Dam.

The National Marines Fisheries Service is expected to release new Biological Opinions based upon the recent assessments in 2014.
