The 16th Annual Altar Show opened November 9th at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, and runs through Sunday, The Altar Show is an annual exhibition of over 60 altars celebrating the common human experience of life and death. It started in the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead but has since expanded.
That’s Meg Hughes, who’s mother Teddy Kell started the Altar Show in 1998. She says the Altars fill all three wings of the Northern Mines Building at the fairgrounds.*
There is a special event happening tonight at 7p.m. They will have coffee with local poets who will be reading poems about renewal and remembrance. The Altar Show is free admission, donations are welcome. For more information visit www.thealtarshow.org.
