Winds are the biggest problem for crews battling what is now being called the ‘Hutto Fire’ near Smartsville. The fire started at around 4:30 on the south side of Highway 20 in the Big Oak Valley area. CalFire reports 2 air tankers, a Cal Fire helicopter, and 6 CalFire engines on the scene. Several other agencies are also helping fight the fire including the U-S Forest Service, Smartsville, Penn Valley, and Rough and Ready Fire Departments. Nevada County Consolidated, the Ophir Hill Fire Department, Beale AFB, Nevada County Sheriff,  and the California Highway Patrol have now been dispatched to the scene as well. The Emergency Command Center reports no structures are involved, but there are stuctures in the area, and they are working on structure protection. The fire has grown from 3 acres to 20 acres in the last half-hour, and describe it as a ‘moderate rate of spread’. No evacuations have been called for, and no one has been injured.
