A new state law allows dogs to be in outdoor eating areas in restaurants.
AB 1965 permits restaurant patrons to bring their pooches to restaurant patios, provided the dogs are under control and the restaurant doesn’t object. Nevada County Senior Consumer Protection and Land Use expert, Randall Young, says AB 1965 went into effect New Years Day.

Young clarifies that a dog or pet cannot go through the restaurant to enter a patio.

This only affects restaurants with an outside eating area in the back or side of a restaurant. If the patio is in front, it is not a problem.
Young also points out that a local ordinance overrides a state law. However, that does not appear to be a problem in Nevada County.

Currently Young says she is not aware of any local ordinance that would conflict with the new law.

Pet owners are also responsible for cleaning up any sort of an accident immediately should it occur in the eating area.
