The Grass Valley City Council meets tonight, and it expects to be a busy one for new mayor Jason Fouyer. The main item on the agenda is filling a vacancy on the council created when Terry Lamphier abruptly resigned last week, but there are other items of business, including a cost-cutting measure involving service delivery and employment staffing. Fouyer told KNCO last week that economics are still a problem, and not a lot of working people are coming to Nevada County…
One goal for Fouyer during his term as mayor is a Parks and Recreation District for the area–something that will eventually lead to some kind of recreation center…
A Parks and Recreation District would have to be approved by voters. A closed session featuring a conference with a labor negotiator starts at 6:30. The regular meeting begins at 7pm at City Hall.
Meanwhile, the Board of Supervisors are getting ready for a long and busy day. Topping the agenda will be a moment of silence in memory of the fourteenth anniversary of the January 10, 2001 tragic incident at the Behavioral health Department, where mental health patient Scott Allen Thorpe shot and killed three people. Laura Wilcox, Michael Markle and Pearlie Mae Feldman will be remembered. Following the moment of silence, supervisors will select of a Chair and Vice Chair for 2015. The meeting gets underway at 9:30a.m. During the morning session, supervisors will consider a request from sheriff Keith Royal to install updates to car camera systems in sheriff’s office patrol vehicles in the maximum contract amount of $52, 716. Public Works Director Steve Castleberry will present a resolution to open bidding for construction of the Brunswick road Loma Rica Drive Intersection Improvement Project. and Chief Information Officer Stephen Monaghan will ask for a resolution accepting a Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $145,519 to enhance the Nevada County Operational Area’s capability to prevent, prepare for and mitigate against emergencies and disasters.
The afternoon session gets underway at 1:30 and supervisors will hold a public hearing to consider the Planning commission’s recommendations on the Yuba River Charter School Project to build a new school at 11157 Rough and Ready Highway and Old Dairy Place.
