A Lost – Found…Yet Still A Loss
It’s been a while since I sat down to write a blog here on KNCO. I could claim lots of reasons, but honestly I just got lazy. So, 2015 my work resolution is not get at least one post up here a week, if not more. Here goes: In the course of…
It’s been a while since I sat down to write a blog here on KNCO. I could claim lots of reasons, but honestly I just got lazy. So, 2015 my work resolution is not get at least one post up here a week, if not more. Here goes:
In the course of getting ready for my portion of a busy broadcast day I read a ton of stuff, I look at too much video, and listen to a bushel of “funny” audio clips. I shift through it looking for something to share during Swap Shop. Something with an emotional impact.
Today in my research I was reminded of a couple things. I rediscovered one of the reasons radio called to me as a young man. I recalled many school vacation days spent with my Dad driving all over northern Indiana on his sales route listening to the car radio. I remembered the joy of a well written thought, and the power that thought could have when spoken eloquently.
I heard this. (click here to hear it for yourself)
What a gem we all had in Paul Harvey. Sure, he was homespun and sometimes goofy. But, Man-O-Man could he bring you to your knees. As a station we were lucky to have him as a part of our broadcast day. Every other station I worked at wanted the carry Paul Harvey, but for various reasons couldn’t.
There are a lot of radio commentators today, too many are shouters. They all would love to have the impact Paul Harvey had. I spent a while working in a small town in Colorado that announced the noon hour two ways, the fire siren would blow and the local station would air the noon Paul Harvey Report. If either failed, no matter the reason, grumbling would soon begin.
Allow me to close simply….
Good Day!
