Having lived in Colorado for a few years, despite having been taught the number in school, you really learn how many feet there are in a mile. 5281 feet. Everything related to Denver is referred to as a Mile High” something or other. Company comes from somewhere else and you go to the state capitol building and stand on the 18th step of the capitol steps and look for the USGS marker to learn how far above sea level you are standing. That marker reenforces what you all ready knew, 5281 feet is equal to a mile.
Yesterday, I was filling on for Tom on the Morning Show her at the radio ranch. There was some nasty fog on the way up the hill at 4:45 AM, which I hoped would burn off by 2 when I would be headed home. Sure enough, the day dawned bright and blue and warm. When it was time for me to head home the inside of my car was down right hot! Nothing is better that driving down the highway on a January afternoon with the windows down. My back east family would have killed for the chance! But as I drove down the road, lower and lower, the window went up and the heater went on and the fog piled on.
By the time I was home it was ugly foggy. When I shared the experience with my wife she only asked what the sun looked like. I had traveled less than 2000 feet in elevation and ended up sounding like a bragger.
I think if Denver can have bragging rights about being a Mile High…..we should have a marker created the celebrate sunny skies.
