The owner of the Gateway Center in Penn Valley says he will work with the county to rectify the situation, after having 41 trees at the center cut down last weekend. Ethan Conrad Properties, based in Sacramento, recently bought the shopping center which is only about 50 percent occupied . One drawback to getting tenants is that the storefronts are blocked from street view because of the trees. Nevada County Planning Department Director Brian Foss says, by cutting the trees Ethan Conrad violated terms of their use permit, and have incurred big fines.
