Grass Valley Police Lt. Steve Johnson says after Peltzer was in custody his black Suburban was secured in a space in the parking lot and the keys were booked with him at the jail. Peltzer was advised to have someone pick up the vehicle in lieu of it being towed and stored at a tow yard.

Peltzer further found out from a friend that an acquaintance of his , 32 year old transient Larry Wilson, had been seen driving the Suburban around town while he was in jail, and that Wilson had also tried to sell it.

An officer located the Suburban hidden behind some trees and the ignition had been completely dismantled.  Lt. Johnson says that’s most likely how Wilson was able to start the vehicle and take it. Officers located Wilson in the transient camp a few yards from the Suburban, and he was arrested for Vehicle Theft and Receiving known stolen property.
