Children's Festival At Pioneer Park
Children's Festival At Pioneer Park

Nevada City’s beloved Children’s Festival returns to Pioneer Park this Saturday, featuring a mechanical dragon, medieval activities, and affordable family fun across two daily sessions.
Another Nevada City tradition that’s now over 50 years old is coming up this weekend. The Children’s Festival is happening Saturday at Pioneer Park. Event director Judi Mosley says the park transforms into a young person’s Renaissance Faire. One prominent feature is the 800 square-foot castle. Mosley says they used to have to construct it each year, due to the flimsy cardboard materials. But that got to be too time-consuming…
There are also over 20 arts and crafts tables. Other notable features include Claude, a life-sized mechanical dragon. Also, a bridge-guarding troll, magician, face-painters, and medieval fencing. And Mosley says although the core age of the festival is five-to-nine-year-old’s, they’ve been offering more activities to widen the appeal…
There are also strolling minstrels, and local treats, like carmel apples and peppermint lemon sticks. But Mosley says there is also more substantial food being offered at a very reasonable price, including three-dollar hotdogs and six-dollar tri-tip sandwiches. And it’s only a three-dollar admission per person. The Children’s Festival is split into two sessions, to reduce crowding. The Morning Session if from 9:30 to 12:30, with the Afternoon Session happening from 2 to 5pm. That’s Saturday at Pioneer Park.
